THE TIMING SUCKED. Just as Mari crested at his touch, they attacked.

The window blew out first with a tinkle of glass, quickly followed by the first hurtling body. While the door slammed open with a thud. Yet more glass breaking came from the bathroom.

Surrounded! And here he was, half-naked, in bed with a flushed woman and an erection to batter down walls.

Fuck. Jax vaulted from the bed, cursing the fact that he was weaponless. A shame. To hell with being kind to creatures. He really could have used a gun right now. Or a sword. Hell, he’d even settle for a kitchen knife.

The fellow to smash in the door faced him, hair cut short in a military brush, black tank top tight, and sporting a shit-eating familiar grin.

Big brother Jackson. And he’d brought the rest of his siblings with him. “What the fuck is wrong with you morons?” he shouted with more than a bit of disgust. After all, they’d just pulled an epic cock block on him. The bastards.

And no, Jax wouldn’t cut them any slack. He’d wager they’d waited for just the right moment to interrupt. His blue balls were not happy.

The window fellow was his bro, Jeremy. He straightened, shaking off the slivers of glass clinging to his more traditional combat outfit. Pure black, which given it was late afternoon, on a sunny day with this hotel oozing a palette of sunshine that barfed pastel, totally out of place. “Hey, little brother.”

“Don’t hey me. What are you doing breaking into my room?”

“We heard screaming,” the eldest of his brothers announced. “And thought you were in trouble.”

“It wasn’t me,” he grumbled through gritted teeth. It was the lovely sound of his woman—my woman, a concept he’d explore more later.

“And here I thought you were against animal cruelty.” A whirl around showed Jebediah leaning against the bathroom door, nose wrinkled as he eyed the bed with reason.

Squawk.

“She wasn’t a bird when we were doing it,” he muttered because, sure enough, Mari had flipped from human to ostrich. Given she was in his bed, wearing a dress, he could see the confusion.

“I’ve heard of getting chicks, but this is extreme,” Jakob said with a shake of his head as he came through the door behind Jackson.

“You, too? What the fuck? Why are you here? I thought you were at home.”

“No, you assumed, arsewipe.”

“I didn’t tell you where I was.”

The circus wasn’t complete yet. Jaycon entered the room, balancing a laptop in one hand while the other twirled a lollipop in his mouth. “You weren’t that hard to find once we looked.”

“Why were you looking? I only called a few hours ago. Even if you hopped on a plane, you shouldn’t be here.” The flight from Australia wasn’t a short one.

“Good thing we were already nearby. We’ve been here for two days waiting for your ship.”

Getting answers was like pulling teeth. Slow and painful. “Why were you waiting for me?”

His eldest brother adopted a serious mien. “A little birdie might have told us that your newest job might be trouble.
